Re: AION : THE TOWER OF ETERNITY
Aion was one of the most anticipated online games of 2009. Its release went relatively smooth by MMO standards and it looked like a game that seemed worth the monthly fee. Once you get into the game however you may find it to be sub par compared to other MMOs that have been released recently. Aion simply brings nothing new to the table and does everything good, but nothing great.
The Korean roots of the game as well as the influence of Lineage 2 are most apparent in the grind. While nowhere near as bad as Lineage 2 it can still be a hassle, especially for crafters, and by level 20+ you find yourself needing millions of experience to level up.
Everything in the game is over exaggerated. Flights will cost you thousands of gold, and the same for teleporting. Items sell for exorbitant amounts of gold, and the economy already seems heavily inflated. Gold sellers are rampant everywhere and will even invade your mailbox. These little annoyances really bog the game down.
But PvP is where the game shines. NCsofts race lockout feature keeps factions fairly balanced. The lockout prevents the creation of new characters on one faction till the other faction catches up. The NPC faction also helps whatever the losing side in The Abyss (PvP Arena). This helps create an atmosphere were even the underdog has a chance. In the end the PvP in the game manages to make up for the grind of the first 25 levels.
So, yes, Aion is worth a shot. At least while we wait for Final Fantasy XIV!
